PVC Adjunct Professor Network

This network is comprised of senior business specialists from across the globe who contribute towards the strategic direction of our courses through their local, national and global perspectives, and advise us on trends and best practice in their respective industries. They also counsel the Faculty with regard to industry research and development, working to support the alignment of the university activity with real-world requirements.

Our Adjunct Professors also contribute directly to our student experience program via activities such as guest lectures, and student and industry forums.

Terry Agnew

Terry is the former Group CEO of RAC (Western Australia), serving as chief executive from 1998 to 2019. RAC started as a motoring club in 1905 and with 1500 employees, now provides a range of diverse services to over 1 million Western Australians in the areas of motoring, insurance, finance, travel, tourism parks and resorts, retirement and home services.

Terry has had a range of executive and board roles with private and public companies, mutual and member organisations, government, and educational organisations. He currently sits on the boards of Edge Employment Solutions ( which he Chairs) , RAA Insurance and the MDA National Insurance Board. Terry has Chaired the Curtin Business School since 2008.

Terry is also the Chair of the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals and was a founding member of CEOs for Gender Equity. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia (Finsia) and Member of the Australian Institute of Engineers.

Before joining RAC, Terry was Managing Director of SGIC Holdings Ltd. (a general insurance and health insurance organisation) in South Australia. He has also worked in the oil and gas industry, in the university sector and as a consultant.

He has previously been President of the Australian Institute of Management (WA), President of AIM Nationally, a director of the Insurance Commission of WA, a director of the West Coast Eagles Football Club and State President of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA). He is an Adjunct Professor of Curtin Business School and is an Honorary Doctor of Curtin University.

Peter Church OAM FAICD

Peter Church was born in Sydney and has spent almost his entire career as a lawyer and corporate adviser in the markets of South East Asia and India.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (University of New South Wales), a Bachelor of Laws (University of Sydney), a Master of Laws (London) and a Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) from Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management, New Delhi. He has been admitted as a Solicitor in several States in Australia as well as Hong Kong and England.

In 1994 he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) by the Australian Government for promotion of business between Australia and South East Asia and in recent years was made a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD).

In addition to being appointed an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University he has been appointed a Distinguished Professor at Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management in New Delhi and a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Great Lakes Institute of Management in Chennai.

He holds a number of directorships and advisory roles including Executive Chairman, AFG Venture Group (an Australian and Asian corporate advisory firm), Special Counsel, Stephenson Harwood (an English law firm with operations in multiple jurisdictions including Asia), Non Executive Director, OM Holdings Limited (a manganese miner and producer of manganese alloys), Non Executive Director, Elara Capital PLC (an Indian investment bank, broker and asset manager), Non Executive Director, Domacom Limited (a fractional property investment technology platform) and is a Member of the South East Asia Advisory Board of GMR Infrastructure Limited (Airports, Energy, Highways and Urban Infrastructure).

He is also an Honorary Adviser, Asia Pacific to The Duke of Edinburgh Award/The International Award for Young People (an international leadership in action programme, available to all young people aged between fourteen and twenty five).

He recently commenced producing an oral history podcast on the lives of elderly Myanmar citizens who born during the British colonial period and have lived through the tumultuous times since then. He has written four books – A Short History of South East Asia” (now in its 6th edition published by Wiley & Sons in 2017), “Added Value – The Life Stories of leading South East Asian Business People” (published by Murmeli in June 1999), “Added Value – The Life Stories of Indian Business Leaders” (published by Roli Books in April, 2010) and “Profiles in Enterprise – Inspiring Stories of Indian Business Leaders” (published by Roli Books in March 2015). Away from the above activities he has a deep interest in the philosophy of Buddhism and was ordained as a Buddhist monk in Myanmar in 1995.

Dr Paul Herz

Dr Paul Herz is currently Vice President, Technical Strategy & Operations at Cruise, a self-driving car company focused on the development of autonomous vehicles.

Prior to this, he led global operations as COO of Halodi Robotics, a Norwegian-based startup at the forefront of providing capable, safe, and affordable humanoid robots to the world.

Dr Herz was also Director of Product Operations at Facebook’s new hardware divisions leading manufacturing, and quality creating category-defining consumer hardware products, and driving innovation at Facebook Oculus AR/VR in augmented reality systems, artificial intelligence, and connectivity. Dr Herz also held a senior leadership role at Apple for several years focused on Asia Pacific Operations for the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook product lines.

Outside of work Dr Herz is a member of the London-based Design & Art Direction Council, working to promote their mission to stimulate, enable, and award creative excellence in design and advertising.

He holds an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University in the Faculty of Business and Law, providing lectures in entrepreneurship and working with the University on industry engagement and product commercialization.

Dr Herz completed his undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley in Engineering Physics and received his doctorate in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Amanda Healy

Amanda Healy is from the Wonnarua nation, the traditional Aboriginal owners of the Hunter Valley region in New South Wales, Australia.

Amanda has more than 35 years’ experience in the mining industry in Australia, Africa and Canada. She worked for some of the world’s most successful mining companies, such as BHP, Rio Tinto and Western Mining Corporation. In 2004 she founded her own engineering business in the Pilbara – Maxx Engineering, later purchased by multinational ThyssenKrupp in 2015.

In late 2014, Amanda established Kirrikin as a social enterprise. Kirrikin transforms Aboriginal artwork onto luxurious cashmere and silk fabrics, turning them into scarves, ties and clothing. Kirrikin both employs and shares business profits with the Aboriginal artists. Rapidly developing an international reputation for its beautiful products, Kirrikin is popular in the USA and Europe as well as at home in Australia.

Amanda went on to establish Warrikal in 2017, a mechanical maintenance business, providing professional support services to the resources sector. Warrikal is Indigenous owned and operated, and seeks to provide stable employment and development opportunities for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. An example of the contribution Warrikal makes, to the communities within which it operates, is to provide training, mentorship and entry-level work opportunities for Indigenous people, in order to take steps towards addressing the significant socio-economic disadvantage many experience.

Craig is married with three children in their early 20s and currently lives in Huntley’s Cove, just to the north of Sydney. Chief interest outside work is Masters athletics, basically sprints.

His current role is Chief Economist, CommSec, interpreting ‘big picture’ economic and financial trends for customers, clients and staff.

CommSec is known for innovative, ‘user friendly’ reports including State of the States, the CommSec iPhone Index and CommSec Home Size report.

As well as providing presentations to staff and clients and commentaries on financial and economic trends, Craig appears regularly in the electronic and print media.

Craig has worked in banking, finance and journalism for around 38 years and holds both Bachelor and Master degrees in Commerce (Economics).

Both degrees were undertaken at University of NSW.

Bernard Salt AM

Bernard Salt is a social commentator, a newspaper columnist, a business advisor and a published author. He has also been an adjunct professor at the Curtin University Business School since 2012. Bernard is based in Melbourne and built his career as a Partner in corporate advisory by founding KPMG Demographics.

It is also fair to say that Bernard Salt has popularised “demography” in Australia and beyond through his columns and media appearances. He has published six popular and best-selling books on social and cultural change starting with The Big Shift: Welcome to the third Australian culture released in 2002.

For the better part of 20 years Bernard has been a regular on the Australian corporate speaking circuit addressing business groups and others on the implications of social change. He argues that demographic factors set the context for popular and consumer culture.

He has popularised terms like ‘seachange’ and ‘treechange’ as well as ‘the man drought’ and more recently the term ‘smashed avocado’ which he made famous, or infamous, globally.

Prior to joining KPMG in the late 1990s Bernard worked with a predecessor firm of PwC and prior to that he worked with a boutique consulting firm based in Melbourne.

Bernard Salt is a school teacher (history and geography) by training although he never taught; instead of teaching he completed a Master of Arts degree in geography at Monash University and then went into consulting.

Bernard was born and raised in the Western Victorian township of Terang. Since retiring from KPMG in 2017 Bernard established The Demographics Group which is a boutique consulting practice servicing the needs of corporate Australia.

In the 2017 Australia Day honours list, Bernard Salt was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his services to demography. Bernard has been a regular visitor to, speaker for, and supporter of Curtin University since 2012.

Sharon Warburton

After an executive career in strategy and finance roles based in Perth, Sydney, London and Abu Dhabi, Sharon is now a full-time Non-Executive Company Director.  She is the 2014 WA Telstra Business Woman of the Year and was named in the 2015 Westpac AFR 100 Women of Influence.

She joined the board of Fortescue Metals Group (FMG, one of Australia’s largest listed companies), in 2013 as a Non-Executive Director.  She is now the Co-Deputy Chairman and she also chairs the Fortescue Remuneration & Nominations Committee.  She is a Non-Executive Director for ASX Listed WorleyParsons Limited, NEXTDC Limited and Gold Road Resources Limited; as well as a Director of the fund raising NFP Foundation for the Perth Children’s Hospital.  She is also a part time member of the Takeovers Panel, a member of the WA Rhodes Scholarship selection panel and the Patron of the Women in MBA Scholarship Programme at Curtin.

Sharon was the inaugural Chairman of the Federal Government funded Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) in 2016/17.  The NAIF offers up to $5 billion over 5 years in concessional finance to encourage and complement private sector investment in infrastructure that benefits Northern Australia. This may include developments in airports, communications, energy, ports, rail and water.

Educated in Exmouth and Perth, Sharon holds a Bachelor of Business degree from Curtin University and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.  She is also a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Building.

Sharon is Mum to 9-year-old Chloe.  She champions flexibility, diversity and work life balance and places a high priority on sharing her own experiences.
