Nowanup Bush Campus
The campus hosts On-Country education programs delivered by Aboriginal Elders and educators. The bush setting enables a transformational learning experience that recognises the wisdom of Nyungar learning and teaching methods.
Immersive experiences
When ‘On-Country’, people learn not only about the land, waters and sky, but also about the historical and contemporary issues that have impacted Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Courses for current students
We offer the following undergraduate and postgraduate units for On-Country learning. These units do not require any prerequisites and can be taken with any course as an elective:
- Listening to Country: First Nations’ Perspectives (undergraduate)
- Nyungar Culture and Identity (undergraduate)
- Graduate Listening to Country: First Nations’ Perspectives (postgraduate)
- On-Country Learning, Exploring Indigenous Australian Knowledges (postgraduate).
Professional development opportunities for industry
Based outside of Curtin? You can still access a number of cultural training, education and workshops to enhance your intercultural understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practices as a professional development opportunity.
“I feel honoured to be able to share Nowanup’s spirituality and energy with students and visitors to heal both the land and the people by taking this unique experience to the world so the world can become a better place.”
Nyungar Elder, Adjunct Associate Professor Eugene Eades
Other locations
Curtin students, staff and visitors can travel to various places in Western Australia of significant cultural significance – Wadjemup (Rottnest Island) and Pinjarra, for example – for On-Country immersive learning experiences.
