The Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT) commenced in 1967. In 1968 WAIT began publishing the WAIT Gazette, a publication aimed at both internal and external audiences.

The Gazette

The Gazette reported on the progress of the new Institute across a number of areas: academic and significant research programs and achievements, teaching and learning, buildings, campuses and grounds, administrative arrangements, social and community matters. The Gazette and its successor publications were the main regular official publication produced by WAIT.

The Reporter

In 1976, The Reporter was launched. This publication continued until 1992. During this period, WAIT became the Curtin University of Technology (1987).

The first issue of the Reporter states that it, “replaces the Bulletin Supplement as the official ‘in-house’ journal of the Institute.”

The Gazette and The Reporter were both published between 1978-1981. During this time, The Reporter contained news and updates on the campus and social and community matters. The Gazette contained in-depth journal articles on academic and world matters.

CurtiNews

In 1992, the Reporter was redesigned and relaunched as “CurtiNews”. The collection holds CurtiNews 1992 volumes 1-15 to 1995 volumes 24-31.

CITE

In 2002, CurtinNews became CITE. CITE was published twice a year, commencing in Summer 2002 and finishing in Summer 2017. CITE was published under ‘Curtin University of Technology’ from 2002-2010. The Winter 2011 issue until the last issue in 2017 was published under ‘Curtin University’. 29 issues of CITE were published.

In 2017 CITE ceased publication. Digital channels were increasingly used to communicate official news about the University.
