Through mentorship, entrepreneurs can accelerate their growth, gain valuable knowledge, and build confidence. Mentorship is a critical component for success in the development of scalable companies.

Curtin Venture Mentors connects Curtin students, researchers, and startup founders engaged in commercialisation and entrepreneurship activities with industry experts who can support them on their entrepreneurial journey.

This program also provides mentors with opportunities to learn and grow through their interactions with innovators, gaining fresh perspectives and insights.

Mentor Missions

Whether you’re passionate about energetic young entrepreneurs, or feel more comfortable in the realm of research and commercialisation, there’s a mentorship opportunity to suit you. Our Mentor Missions are assigned based on the level of expertise, interest area, and commitment mentors are able to provide. Some examples include:

Founders

Providing one-on-one support to founders who have completed our entrepreneur programs such as Curtin Ignition and Curtin Accelerate.

Students

Guiding students through programs such as our new Bachelor of Innovation or as part of our Student Startup Weekends.

Researchers

Advising Curtin academics and PhD students on commercialisation projects.

Protoventure Founders

Providing business expertise to our Venture Studio protoventures and advanced startup companies.

HOW IT WORKS

Individuals interested in applying to become a Curtin Venture Mentor must submit an expression of interest with a short summary of their domain areas of expertise and career history, as well as information on the type of mentee they are looking to support.

Mentors will be accepted into the program based on their:

• Experience with startups or research commercialisation projects
• Depth of industry or domain expertise and industry connections
• Level of involvement with the broader West Australian startup ecosystem

Mentors and mentees are then matched based on the level of commitment and expertise of the mentor and the needs of the mentee through our mentor management system, Mentorloop.

Mentorloop is a cloud-based mentoring software platform which enables organisations to match people into effective mentorships at any scale. Features of the system include custom program promotion, instant mentor-mentee sign-up, quick matching and self-matching, a communication portal, resource and content tracks, and program health analytics and reporting.
