Moorditj Yorga Scholarship Program FAQs

The scholarship

What age is classified as mature aged?

For this scholarship, mature-age is considered as someone who is 25 years or older. Considerations may be made for individuals between the ages of 21 and 24 years if they can demonstrate special circumstances. If you would like to discuss this further, please email mys@curtin.edu.au.

Can mature aged non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women apply for this scholarship?

Unfortunately no, this particular scholarship is for mature-age Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women only.

I am a mature aged Aboriginal man. Can I apply?

How many yorgas have been awarded this scholarship to date?

18 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have been awarded the Moorditj Yorga Scholarship, with 15 yorga’s currently receiving support. We hope to see this number increase in the coming years so we can continue to support more Moorditj women, their families, and communities across WA.

Can yorgas receiving this scholarship undertake any course of study at Curtin?

Yes, women who receive this scholarship can be completing any undergraduate degree of their choosing and allowing each yorga to carve out their future in industries they are passionate about. Women who are completing a bridging pathway or alternative entry course are also eligible for this scholarship.

I am part way through my studies, am I still eligible to apply?

Both future and current students are eligible to apply for the Moorditj Yorga Scholarship, meaning you could be partway through your studies at Curtin or commencing your studies. Those who have already started their degree program will be supported for the remainder of their studies.

How much should I donate?

Everyone’s circumstances are different with respect to what they can give, and any donation that is meaningful to you is meaningful to us. We welcome the opportunity to have a conversation about this Scholarship and how your gift can make a profound difference.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Curtin University is registered as a deductible gift recipient (DGR) under federal government legislation, which means that all donations greater than $2 are tax-deductible within Australia. Curtin is also endorsed by the Australian Tax Office (ATO) as an income tax concession charity (TCC) and registered with the Australian Charities and not-for-profits commission.

All donors receive a tax receipt by email.

How will my gift be spent?

100% of your contribution will be applied to the total costs of the Moorditj Yorga Scholarship Program. This will include support for our yorga’s both the financial and mentoring components of the scholarship.

Where can I find updates on the journey of the Moorditj Yorga cohort?

You will be kept informed of the impact of your gift and the journey of the Moorditj Yorga cohort via email.

The progress of the Moorditj Yorga Scholarship, including testimonials from our yorga’s and exciting Scholarship Program updates will be shared via our website and social media channels.

Will I be recognised for my donation?

All donors will be acknowledged by name on our online honour roll, to view click here.

You can, of course, choose to remain anonymous and will be listed as such on the honour roll.
