Reflections on my medical school journey

While many kids dream of becoming athletes or astronauts, Curtin graduate Christopher Chi always knew he wanted to help others. That passion led him to study medicine, graduating in 2021 as part of Curtin Medical School’s first cohort.

Now a GP Registrar at Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service in Kununurra, Chris is making a real impact in remote healthcare.

In honour of the recent National Doctors Day, Chris shares his journey — from med student to frontline doctor.

3NA – brotherhood, indigenous roots & resilience.

After winning Curtin’s Talent for Tomorrow Competition in 2023 3NA is a name that has become quite popular.

For the past two years, brothers Matt, Dan and Nate have been treating our graduation audiences to a finale most universities would be envious of, with their original song ‘Non Stop High’.

Dan and Nate are both proud Curtin alumni, and together with their brother Matt, are fusing the unlikely worlds of rap and academia.

3NA’s high energy performance is a powerful nod to their brotherhood, indigenous roots and unwavering resilience.

Out bush and On Country

Students from Goldfields University Department of Rural Health (GUDRH) in Kalgoorlie took part in an unforgettable On Country cultural experience, joined by health students, staff, and leaders. A decade of excellence in Exercise Science!

A decade of excellence in Exercise Science!

Earlier this month we celebrated 10 Years of Curtin Exercise and Sport Science at our Special Alumni Reunion.

Held at The Lantern overlooking Curtin’s Bentley campus, over 50 alumni and staff reunited to reflect, reconnect and gain insights from an inspiring panel hosted by alumna and Network 10 Sports Journalist, Ashleigh Nelson OLY.

The panel featured:
• Dr Adam Beard, Fremantle Dockers & Curtin graduate
• Ceinwen Roberts, Port to Pub Co-Founder
• Jake Harvie OLY, Olympian & Curtin graduate
They shared powerful stories on leadership, overcoming adversity in sport, and future directions in exercise science.

A heartfelt thanks goes to Dr Angela Spence and the Exercise Science working group for their incredible work behind the scenes in bringing the event to life.

2025 NDRI Symposium

2025 NDRI Symposium

Over 100 delegates from across the alcohol and other drug (AOD) sector gathered for the 2025 NDRI symposium, Challenges and Opportunities – Reducing AOD-related Harm in 2025 and Beyond.

Attended by health practitioners, police, treatment providers, and policymakers, it featured a wide range of presentations. Highlights included an engaging panel discussion with local and international experts on the future AOD policy and practice, keynotes from Professor Sir Ian Gilmore on the influence of culture and commercial interests in alcohol policy, and NDRI Director Professor Paul Griffiths on synthetic drug trends.

The program covered topics such as nitrous oxide use, vaping in schools, youth drinking, minimum unit pricing, intimate partner violence, stigma, barriers to care, and criminal justice outcomes. An overwhelmingly positive symposium with many actions to follow.
