Around the Fire was an exhibition of works from the Curtin University Art Collection, showcasing a diverse range of Indigenous artistic practices in response to the NAIDOC 2024 theme “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud”. The seven works each tell their own stories through a variety of means – painting, installation, found object, machine drawing and printmaking. Around the Fire brought together artwork as a celebration of Indigenous storytelling, culture and place. The power of art to powerfully tell stories and promote meaningful dialogue was centred like a smouldering campfire or the warm hearth at a home.

Around the Fire includes work by Ngamaru Bidu (Manyjilyjarra), Laurel Nannup (Noongar), Reynold Hart (Noongar), Norma MacDonald (Noongar), Corban Clause Williams (Manyjilyjarra), Rover Thomas (Wangkajunga and Kukatja) and Robert Andrew (Yawuru).
