As we welcomed students back to uni in semester two, we also welcomed them into our two brand new Library spaces – an entire new floor on level 7 and a scenic outdoor terrace on level 4. Both are fantastic additions to the Curtin student experience and enable us to conduct new activities as a library.
New spaces on level 7
Before level 7 was opened to the Curtin community it used to house a range of building services and even had a full time Telstra technician until Curtin upgraded its phone network. After our refurbishments it has become a bright, spacious floor for study. The open floor area has views across almost all of Perth and is a light and casual study spot that students are enjoying everyday now.
Level 7 also includes dedicated events spaces. The Lantern is a seminar-style room with stunning views of the south end of campus, placing you at eye-height of the Henderson Court pines. This space is ideal for workshops, ceremonies and cocktail events, and is already getting a large amount of use by many areas across Curtin.
The Glasshouse is a versatile open space with excellent visibility across level 7. It is suitable for showcases, exhibitions and as a breakout catering area for large events. When not in use for events it has bean bags and casual furniture, and is a great spot to chill out with friends.
Level 4 outdoor terrace
Meanwhile on level four, a brand-new open-air terrace has been opened. The level 4 outdoor terrace provides great views over Henderson Court in a beautiful, green outdoor area – perfect for a study break and fresh air.
Generally, we’ve been very pleased with the use of the Library after our refurbishment. Since opening in semester one this year we’ve had over 770,000 visits to the Library, and we’re hoping our new spaces encourage more students to check out the Library.
