The Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS) are Australian government funded scholarships that provide opportunities for students from Australia’s developing partner countries to study at a range of Australian universities, including Curtin University. Completion of an Introductory Academic Program (IAP) is compulsory for all scholarship recipients, and Curtin University Library has delivered Curtin’s IAP since 2017.
In this article we introduce you to four students who have joined us for the IAP in recent years, and who are currently completing their studies at Curtin.
Valentina Srikartika (Semester one 2022 IAP)
I am Valentina Meta Srikartika from Indonesia, pursuing a PhD in Public Health thanks to the Australia Awards Scholarship. My journey with Curtin began with a Master of Public Health in 2013, and the opportunity to return for my PhD came from a recommendation by a fellow Australia Awards alumnus, leading me to a project under Professor Rachael Moorin, Director of Curtin Data Linkage. This project, focused on the utilisation of primary health care to improve health outcomes using Health Administrative Data Linkage, aligns with my goal to use data-driven evidence to support policies aimed at improving health services and outcomes, especially in the elderly population, with the intention of applying this knowledge in both Australia and Indonesia.
Dwi Suatman (Semester two 2022 IAP)
I am Dwi Suatman from Indonesia, currently working towards a PhD in Education at the School of Education. During English Academic Preparation, I attended an online University Exhibition, and among the participating institutions was Curtin University. The representatives were exceedingly helpful and provided valuable information. I discovered that education programs at Curtin University are consistently ranked among the top ten in Australia.
Nila Tanzil (Semester two 2022 IAP)
My name is Nila Tanzil. I come from Indonesia. On a sunny day in December 2021, I received an email that brought so much joy: I got the Australia Awards Scholarship! The scholarship enables me to study a PhD overseas, something that has been at the back of my mind since 2016. So, it was truly a dream come true to finally fly to Perth in July 2022 to start my PhD in Education study at Curtin University.
Iolanda Guilaze (Semester one 2023 IAP participant)
My name is Iolanda Sitoe Guilaze. I am from Mozambique, am married and a mother of two boys and one girl. I’m pursuing my Master of Science in Mineral and Energy Economics at Curtin University, sponsored by an Australia Awards Scholarship. I came here to gain skills and knowledge in the mining industry as my country is very rich in mineral resources and should benefit from economic growth and social welfare.
We look forward to bringing you more from these students, including their experiences of the IAP, their challenges, aspirations, and memorable experiences from their time at Curtin University, in upcoming newsletters.
