Curtin University Library is excited to present its latest exhibition on Level 3 of the TL Robertson Library, an exploration and celebration of learning, that quintessential university activity. “Learning Unlocked” is a collaborative effort, developed in partnership with various departments across Curtin University, featuring insights from Allied Health and Education academics, as well as professionals from the Curtin Cultural Capability and Learning Excellence teams.
The journey through “Learning Unlocked” commences with an exploration of “Learning on Country,” known as boodja neh in Nyoongar language. This concept, deeply embedded in the traditional learning methodology of the Whadjuk Nyoongar people, emphasises the integral connection between knowledge acquisition, the land, and cultural heritage. The exhibition offers an introductory examination of the cultural and social dividends derived from this immersive learning experience.
Taking a historical perspective, the exhibition traces the evolution of human anatomy study, spanning from Ancient Greece to the contemporary setting of Bentley, Western Australia. Delving into the practice of dissection, a core element of anatomical studies, the exhibition sheds light on centuries of restrictions, both religious and political. It celebrates the determination of individuals who challenged boundaries and taboo, paving the way for advancements in visualisation tools, from Renaissance masterpieces to cutting-edge three-dimensional photogrammetry software currently under development.
“Learning Unlocked” encourages interaction by posing topical questions on learning theories and inviting participants to showcase their writing prowess (albeit with the non-dominant hand), exploring the intriguing concept of neuroplasticity. The exhibition also provides a glimpse into the learning journey of John Curtin, showcasing how his limited formal education spurred a lifelong commitment to independent study and a deep love for poetry. This narrative is complemented by items from the John Curtin Prime Ministerial Library’s special collection of John Curtin related items.
Beyond these narratives, the exhibition delves into the theory behind makerspaces, the integration of virtual reality in learning and education, and the practical applications of two-way learning. Students in particular, will find valuable tools such as the learning design flowchart and career wheels, as they navigate the challenges of the semester.
“Learning Unlocked” offers a comprehensive exploration of a subject close to our hearts, presenting a playful yet informative display suitable for all audiences, including a nod to the LEGO enthusiasts out there. The exhibition will be on display until the conclusion of semester 1, 2024, conveniently located near the main entrance of TL Robertson Library on the Curtin Perth (Bentley) campus.
We invite you to engage with “Learning Unlocked” and uncover the rich tapestry of learning perspectives, history, and practical applications that await within its walls.
