Larnaca Mathias recently joined the Library as Library Venues Assistant. We spoke to Larnaca to learn more about her background, work experience and her new role.
I began my career as a freelance graphic designer. Having spent several years in Melbourne, Victoria, and it’s not so friendly weather, I decided it was time for a change. A couple of visits to Perth made it clear that this would eventually become home and almost ten years later, it has been one of my best decisions yet.
With a background in design and experience in marketing, predominantly within the field of events, I secured a position at the Parmelia Hilton as their Events Team Lead running private and corporate events.
After six years in the position, I was eager for a new opportunity, one that continued to keep me connected to the world of events. This led me to the role as Venues Coordinator with the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. Working with members of the Western Australian Health Department and some extraordinary researchers, I was lucky enough to gain insight into some of the incredible work done by our health professionals.
My new role as Library Venues Assistant at Curtin University Library is to look after the event spaces at the TL Robertson Library. This is my first experience working in a library and a university and I am excited about the new challenges and learning opportunities that lie ahead.
