Writing a resume can be tricky when you haven’t had much “real-world’ experience outside of your studies and only a couple of part-time jobs. So it’s helpful that Curtin offers a huge number of programs and development opportunities that you can get involved with and add to your resume. An added bonus is that you’re likely to meet new people along the way!

Curtin Volunteers!
Becoming a volunteer through Curtin Volunteers! (CV!) will not only provide you with a number of volunteering opportunities to give back to your community but will allow you to develop your interpersonal and leadership skills and build experience working in a team. These skills are all qualities sought after by employers!
CV! run a variety of programs that cover a broad range of interests throughout the year, from day activities to weekend trips away, meaning there is something for everyone to get involved with!

Mentoring
Strong communication skills are an essential quality to have when applying for any job and becoming a New to Curtin Mentor is an excellent way to hone those skills.
As a mentor, you will be assigned a small group of students who are starting out in a similar area of study and you’ll keep in contact with them regularly throughout the semester. You’ll play the important role of being a guide to uni, by providing support and advice to help them navigate their first semester at Curtin.

Curtin Abroad
Spending a semester or a year abroad and immersing yourself in another culture is a great way to learn, experience life with a different flavour, and make friends from all over the world. It also pushes you out of your comfort zone, and forces you to put yourself out there to meet and interact with new people and adapt to a new routine, much like starting a new job!

John Curtin Leadership Academy
The John Curtin Leadership Academy (JCLA) is Curtin University’s flagship co-curricular leadership program and helps you to build the skills to identify your strengths; reflect, collaborate and communicate effectively; and facilitate positive social change in communities, all while gaining real-world experience.

Earn While You Learn
The Earn While You Learn (EWYL) program is a Careers, Employment & Leadership initiative that gives you the opportunity to apply for paid casual and part-time on-campus positions, which will build your skills and help enhance your employability.
