Curtin Business School (CBS) student Christina Do is one of only three Australians selected to participate in one of the most prestigious leadership and development programs in the world.
Global Village for Future Leaders of Business and Industry is an intensive six-week program held annually at the Iacocca Institute at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, United States and will take place from 28 June to 8 July.
Elizabeth Prendergast Jones, Manager of cbsplus at CBS said Global Village is an applied leadership and cross-cultural training program designed for people who share a dream of building a leadership career in business and industry.
“The Global Village has been held annually since 1997 and has become one of the best known and most reputable programs of its type in the world,” Ms Prendergast Jones said.
“The program brings together young business people and students from around the world and international leaders from a range of fields to develop future leaders capable of working ethically in a global business environment.
“Many Curtin students have participated and have found the intensive learning and networking opportunity a life changing experience.”
Christina who is studying Economics and Commercial Law is looking forward to being in an environment with a dynamic and diverse group of future world leaders.
“I will be going with an open mind and hope to absorb as much knowledge as possible, share ideas and experiences with the other interns and hopefully gain a more culturally sensitive international perspective on global issues,” Christina said.
“We will meet top-level executives, take part in a range of business and industry seminars and sessions and work on a real life project throughout the six week period.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to expand my networks and develop long lasting personal and professional relationships.”
Christina graduates at the end of 2008 and currently juggles her studies with part-time work at cbsplus and also tutors Contract Law at Curtin.
The cbsplus program is a Curtin Business School professional and personal development program designed to build the skills employers look for in graduates. Students complete a selection of activities to build cultural awareness, leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
“At the moment I am coordinating the Kent Street Senior High Volunteer Program where I organise a group of cbsplus students to help the English as a Second Language Class at the high school,” Christina said.
“Attendance has improved significantly with the students seeing the benefit of the extra assistance we give them.”
Christina hopes to further her studies after graduating and intends to stay at Curtin and join the world of academia.
