Community radio station Curtin FM 100.1 has exceeded their wildest expectations by collecting more than $115,000 worth of donations at their 2008 Radiothon.
The Radiothon was run in early April, with all funds raised going back into running the station as well as upgrading infrastructure before a potential move into digital radio in the next few years.
Station Manager Quinn Glasson was delighted with the total money raised through the Radiothon with 2008 a record total in Curtin FM Radiothon history.
“We had a conservative target of around $80,000 but were blown away with final figures of over $115,000,” said Mr Glasson.
“It’s a huge improvement on last year’s figure of around $80,000 and a credit to the generosity and loyalty of our Curtin FM listeners.”
During the week Curtin FM received more than 2000 individual donors, ranging from $5 to $5,000.
“We had a number of $1,000 single donations, but we are just as thrilled to receive the five dollar donations,” he said.
Mr Glasson thanked all those who helped with the Radiothon and said this year’s success was testament to the dedication of the Curtin FM family.
“This year’s success is a tribute to all the Curtin FM staff and our team of dedicated volunteers who have worked tirelessly to answer the phones and coordinate the entire event,” he said.
“Our sponsors also continue to play a large part in the event by donating prizes that are raffled off.”
Director of Corporate Communications Val Raubenheimer welcomed the large amount of money raised.
“The fantastic result of the Radiothon demonstrates how important Curtin FM is to members of the community as they continue to give generous donations to ensure that the station can continue to broadcast,” she said.
“The importance of the station can be seen through a number of pensioners who donate large amounts of their pensions to Curtin FM as the station brings a lot of enjoyment to their lives.
“With 2008 being such a successful radiothon we can look to a bigger and better event in 2009.”
The Radiothon is an annual event run by the station to allow listeners to show their support for a much loved radio station and important feature of the community.
