Curtin University of Technology Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jeanette Hacket, has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to international education.
She was named the winner of the 2009 Excellence in Leadership in International Education Award at a special ceremony in Sydney yesterday.
Curtin Chancellor, Gordon Martin, congratulated Professor Hacket on winning such a prestigious national award.
“This award recognises Professor Hacket as a leader in international education,” he said.
“It is an area that she is immensely passionate about and under her leadership Curtin has continued to forge new markets and international relationships.
“For example, nearly a quarter of our student cohort is made up of international students plus we have a well-established campus in Malaysia, and last year Professor Hacket officially opened our Curtin Singapore campus.”
Professor Hacket said she was proud to receive the award and looked forward to furthering Curtin’s long-standing commitment to international engagement.
“I am honoured to receive this award because I firmly believe in the enormous value of international education,” she said.
“It is not only one of Australia’s leading export earners, it also provides invaluable cross-cultural experiences for all students, which helps to develop understanding that underpin tolerance and stability within our community.”
The Award was presented by the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA).
Professor Hacket became Head of the International Student Services at Curtin in 1991 and Dean of International Programs five years later. In 2002 she was appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor International and Enterprise then Vice-Chancellor in 2006.
Curtin is Western Australia’s largest and most multi-cultural university. The University has a strong commitment to international engagement with Australia’s third largest international student population.
