Curtin University of Technology has had increased demand for places from school leavers and mature age students for the coming academic year.
Curtin’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Jeanette Hacket said Curtin was delighted with the outstanding responses to its course offerings in 2010.
“Curtin has more than 6,500 first preference applicants this year which is an increase of 13.2 per cent from 2009,” she said.
“The number of first preferences from school leavers is 10.2 per cent more than last year and mature age 20.2 per cent higher.”
Professor Hacket said Curtin had made more offers in round one 2010 than at the same time last year.
“The increases are primarily in the areas of construction management, design, media, primary education, engineering and commerce double degree, social work and health,” she said.
“Courses in construction management, media, nursing, social work, occupational therapy and physiotherapy are making additional offers to meet increase demand.
“We’ve also had an increase in applicants and offers in the social work program. The number of offers in social work has increased 31 per cent from last year.”
Professor Hacket said demand for resources courses had also remained strong.
