The Vice-Chancellor of Curtin University Professor Jeanette Hacket has confirmed that a Corruption and Crime Commission (Commission) hearing into suspected misconduct at the Curtin English Language Centre (CELC) will take place from 21-25 March.
CELC conducts English language competency testing, primarily of immigration visa applicants.
Professor Hacket said the University became aware last year of possible misconduct by a former staff member at CELC and straight away referred the issue to the Commission.
“In June 2010 Curtin established the Professional Standards and Conduct Unit and has committed an annual budget of approximately $2 million to the education and awareness of staff, and the investigation of any matters of possible misconduct.
“The University has been commended by the Commission for its proactive reporting of, and response to, such incidents and we are absolutely committed to working with them to ensure Curtin becomes a best practice organisation in preventing, detecting and managing issues of misconduct,” Professor Hacket said.
