Curtin University has appointed pharmacy practice researcher and teacher Dr Lynne Emmerton as its new Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Practice.
Dr Emmerton, whose 18 years of research in the safe and effective use of medicines in the community, joins Curtin’s School of Pharmacy from the University of Queensland, where she was a Senior Lecturer for 10 years.
She is highly regarded in the academic and professional pharmacy arenas with a notable profile in the Australasian Pharmaceutical Science Association, having led and participated in their annual conferences for over two decades.
Dr Emmerton said that Curtin University offered a number of appealing elements that attracted her to the role.
“Curtin University has an impressive reputation and a proud history of working closely with the profession and for initiating research that makes a difference both in the west and nationally,” Dr Emmerton said.
“It’s going to be great to teach pharmacy students in the new $25 million state-of-the-art facilities as of next year, where I can focus on inspiring pharmacy students to become effective communicators, and professional, ethical, knowledgeable healthcare providers.”
Dr Emmerton said she has relatively broad interests in Pharmacy Practice, and productive interstate and multi-professional collaborations.
“I’m aiming to develop a strong Pharmacy Practice research profile here at Curtin and a number of my ongoing projects will lend themselves to follow-on research based at Curtin.”
Funders for her leading collaborative research include Reckitt Benckiser Healthcare in the UK, the Pharmacists Board of Queensland and the Pharmacy Guild of Australia.
