Curtin University has recognised six healthcare community leaders for their outstanding dedication and leadership by conferring them the title of Adjunct Senior Clinical Fellow, Adjunct Associate Professor or Adjunct Professor.
Dr Nick Bretland, General Practitioner in Bentley and past director of Canning Division of General Practice, was awarded Adjunct Senior Clinical Fellow and five other leading medical specialists were also named as new Curtin Adjuncts.
The new Adjunct Professors were honoured at a ceremony held at the University, featuring an address by Curtin’s new Head of Medicine, Professor William Heart.
The Adjunct appointments were made by the Faculty of Health Sciences to health industry experts who fulfil a number of criteria, including a significant record of public service, an established professional reputation, and an ability to contribute to the development of the Faculty at Curtin.
Professor Clare Pollock, Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, Health Sciences said the honour recognised each person’s contribution to the quality of healthcare available to Western Australians.
“I would like to congratulate our new Adjuncts on their new appointment with Curtin University,” said Professor Pollock.
“They have all made meaningful achievements and are outstanding leaders in the healthcare industry, which makes them very worthy recipients of this significant honour.
“Their extensive experience in healthcare will make a real contribution to strengthening our teaching and research. We are looking forward to working with these talented leaders.”
The appointment of the title ‘Adjunct’ signifies the start of a closer relationship between a university and an expert working in the field. The title is awarded for three years, (or until the Adjunct resigns from the appointment).
Curtin’s Health Sciences Faculty has 600 active Adjunct appointments in place, with experts across all fields of healthcare who assist Curtin in areas of research, teaching, curriculum development and partnerships with industry.

Adjunct Senior Clinical Fellow
• Dr Nick Bretland, General Practitioner in Bentley and past director of Canning Division of General Practice.
Adjunct Associate Professors were awarded to:
• Dr Kim Pedlow, Rural Generalist with interests in obstetrics, paediatrics and minor surgery,
past President of the Rural Doctors Association of Western Australia and current Vice President.
• Dr Johnny Wu, Consultant Ophthalmologist at Swan District Hospital and Osborne Park Hospital and the Director of WA Eye Specialists.
• Dr Daniel Xu, General Medical Practitioner and Board Director of the Canning Division of General Practice.
Adjunct Professors were also awarded to:
• Dr Tim Jeffery, general Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Sub Specialist Urogynaecologist currently in private practice in West Perth.
• Dr Gordon Padovan, General Practitioner with a private practice in Waikiki, and Board Member of the Western Australian Melanoma Advisory Board.
