Curtin University has today secured $10.45 million in funding from the Federal Government’s Australian Research Council (ARC) to support important research activities.

The ARC funding will make a significant contribution to Curtin University’s commitment to high-impact research across a wide range of areas by supporting 26 research projects.

The successful grant recipients include seven Discovery Early Career Research Awards (DECRA) valued at $2.5 million, one ARC Discovery Indigenous Award valued at $1.3 million and 18 ARC Discovery Projects totalling $6.6 million.

In addition, Curtin University researchers are investigators on seven collaborative projects led by other universities, which received $4.2 million in ARC funding.  These include four Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities grants, totalling $2.8 million, two Discovery Projects valued at $0.7 million, and one Discovery Indigenous project valued at $0.7 million.

The grants were announced by Federal Minister for Education and Training, Senator the Hon. Simon Birmingham, today.

Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry congratulated Curtin’s successful ARC grant recipients, adding it would enable the University to continue to grow its research capabilities.

“This funding builds on the quality of research already being undertaken by researchers at Curtin University and I am delighted that this important work has been supported by $10.45 million in funding from the ARC,” Professor Terry said.

“The projects supported by this funding aim to make a real difference to the lives of people through vital health, Aboriginal children’s wellbeing, science, chemistry and engineering research.

“I would also like to congratulate the Curtin University researchers involved in other successful research projects, which are being run as collaborations with other universities.”

Curtin University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Professor Chris Moran, said the range of research supported by ARC funding was a fantastic achievement for the University.

“This ARC funding assures the ongoing underlying growth in research excellence at Curtin University, underpinning our strategy to balance researcher-driven and demand-driven outcomes and create a better tomorrow,” Professor Moran said.
