An innovative educational leader from Curtin University has been selected to serve on a prestigious new advisory board hoping to shape the future of global education.
Mr Kim Flintoff, a Learning Futures Advisor in Curtin Learning and Teaching at Curtin University, is one of 100 educational leaders chosen by CoSN (The Consortium for School Networking) to implement the use of emerging technology in the K-12 (kindergarten to Year 12) school curriculum.
Mr Flintoff said he was honoured to be recognised by CoSN and looked forward to working alongside a group of exceptional educators to address key challenges in the learning and teaching field.
“The education sector is constantly evolving and it is important to adapt to new ways of working to ensure it remains at the forefront of developments and remains relevant for students,” Mr Flintoff said.
“My role at Curtin University has allowed me to develop and implement innovative programs that challenge and engage with current students and I hope to use this experience to transform learning on a global scale.”
The advisory board will look to address global obstacles in learning and teaching, acknowledge megatrends that drive change, and develop tools to ensure school leaders have access to the latest information on emerging issues and technology trends.
Curtin University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Professor Jill Downie congratulated Mr Flintoff, adding he is an influential leader in the learning and teaching space.
“Kim is a strong, influential leader and has contributed significantly to developing and implementing innovative programs aligned with the University’s strategic vision,” Professor Downie said.
“Creating innovative learning programs for students is critical to the future of education and Curtin has become a strong leader in this space with its new Massive Open Online Course’s (MOOC) that are provided worldwide.
“Kim’s appointment is a fantastic opportunity for Curtin to expand its presence in the learning and teaching field and collaborate with global leaders and innovators to enrich the role of innovative educational programs around the world.”
CoSN will issue its insights and findings from the advisory board into three short reports, titled Hurdles, Accelerators, and Tech Enablers, along with an implementation toolkit, which will be released throughout 2019 to spur ongoing discussions.
Mr Flintoff is one of 100 esteemed advisors committed to advancing progressive practices in the field, addressing challenges such as digital equity and the gap between pedagogy and technology, as well as exciting developments including the integration of design thinking into learner approaches and greater student autonomy.
