Curtin University has marked the opening of its fourth international campus, Curtin Mauritius, with an official celebration held at Curtin St Georges Terrace last night.
The Curtin Mauritius Campus, which was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Mauritius, The Hon Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, on May 3, was built upon an existing partnership with the Charles Telfair Institute, located at Moka, south-east of the capital Port Louis.
The celebration last night was attended by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Mauritius Mr Ian Whitaker, Charles Telfair Institute Chair Mr Cédric de Spéville and Charles Telfair Institute Executive Director Mr Jeremy Charoux, along with government officials and industry partners.
Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said she was delighted to celebrate the opening of Curtin Mauritius in Perth with the University’s Mauritian partners and other important stakeholders.
“The opening of Curtin’s fourth international campus in Mauritius is a significant occasion for the University as it builds on its international footprint with campuses already well established in Malaysia and Singapore, and more recently in Dubai, in addition to our two major campuses in Western Australia,” Professor Terry said.
“It is also a significant milestone for Mauritius as it positions itself as an important education hub for the African and Indian Ocean region.
“The opening of Curtin Mauritius builds on a successful 14-year partnership with Charles Telfair Institute and will ensure thousands more students from the region continue to benefit by furthering their education at the tertiary level.”
Before the official opening on May 3, Curtin had partnered with Charles Telfair Institute for 14 years with Curtin degree programs delivered to more than 2,300 students in Mauritius.
