Western Australia’s newly appointed top judge and eminent jurist has been named as the newest member of the Curtin Law School Advisory Board.
The recently appointed Chief Justice of Western Australia, the Honourable Justice Peter Quinlan who took on the role in August 2018 after it was vacated by the Honourable Wayne Martin AC, has been appointed to the School’s Advisory Board, which works to ensure the University remains highly engaged with industry.
Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry congratulated Chief Justice Quinlan on his recent appointment as the 14th Chief Justice of Western Australia and welcomed him as a prominent member of the Curtin Law School Advisory Board.
“I am delighted to acknowledge the role the Chief Justice will play on our Law School’s Advisory Board, which collaborates with industry to shape the future of education, teaching and research at the Law School,” Professor Terry said.
“Chief Justice Quinlan, who was previously the Solicitor-General of Western Australia, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his contribution to the Advisory Board.”
Professor Paul Fairall, the Foundation Dean of Law and Head of School of the Curtin Law School, said he was looking forward to working closely with Chief Justice Quinlan, an eminent jurist who is highly regarded within Western Australia and the legal profession.
“The Chief Justice has held various senior roles within the Western Australian legal and judiciary system including in the areas of commercial, civil, criminal, administrative and constitutional law,” Professor Fairall said.
Chief Justice Quinlan is a former assistant Crown Counsel at the Crown Solicitor’s Office, Director of the Law Council of Australia and President of the Western Australian Bar Association.
He was appointed Senior Counsel in 2010, before being appointed Solicitor-General of Western Australia in 2016. He was named the 14th Chief Justice of Western Australia in August 2018.
