Generous members of the local community have donated more than $100,000 to Curtin FM during the community radio station’s annual Radiothon.
The five-day fundraising event received more than 2,100 individual donations to raise a total amount of $104,000 with donations continuing to roll in.
Curtin FM Station Manager Mr Quinn Glasson thanked the community for throwing their support behind Curtin FM during Radiothon.
“Each year, we are blown away by the kind-heartedness of our listeners and the support shown to our station especially during Radiothon,” Mr Glasson said.
“I would also like to thank our wonderful volunteers for giving their time to Radiothon by answering phones and taking donations and coordinating the event as well as their tireless efforts in supporting the station throughout the year.”
Curtin University Vice-President of Corporate Relations, Ms Valerie Raubenheimer, said community donations ensured the volunteer-driven radio station continued to thrive.
“The significant donations made during Radiothon speak volumes about the wide-ranging support Curtin FM has attracted and maintained over the years,” Ms Raubenheimer said.
“Every dollar raised during Radiothon contributes directly to the running of the station, and it would not be possible without the support of volunteers and dedicated listeners.”
Curtin FM is Western Australia’s largest community radio station with more than 240,000 weekly listeners.
Based at Curtin University’s Perth Campus, Curtin FM is a not-for-profit enterprise completely funded by community support and sponsorships.
