Career advice, course and enrolment information, and fun activities for local school students and the community will all be on offer at the upcoming Curtin Kalgoorlie Career Open Day, a free event to be held at the Kalgoorlie campus later this month.
Attendees will have the opportunity to receive helpful advice on Curtin University’s mining, engineering, business, education and health courses, as well as the chance to chat to industry partners.
Curtin University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Professor Jill Downie said as well as the Kalgoorlie-based majors, Curtin offered a diverse range of online courses, which also give students complete access to the facilities and services at the Kalgoorlie Campus.
“In addition to the renowned engineering degrees offered at our WA School of Mines, Curtin Kalgoorlie offers undergraduate degrees in early childhood education, primary education, health and commerce along with the UniReady Enabling Program and Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Course (ITEC),” Professor Downie said.
“Students who choose from the large number of online courses offered through Curtin’s partnership with Open Universities Australia also have access to all of the facilities available at Curtin Kalgoorlie.
“We’re also delighted to soon welcome the Rural Health Campus, a Kalgoorlie-based integral part of the Curtin Medical School, boosting regional training opportunities for medical and health science students, and helping to meet the challenges facing the rural health workforce.”
The Rural Health Campus should be finished in time for the 2021 academic year and will include a simulation clinical hospital ward and rooms for clinical skills training and assessment.
Kalgoorlie Campus Director Sabina Shugg said in addition to prospective students all members of the community were invited and encouraged to visit campus on the upcoming Open Day.
“With applications to study at Curtin in 2021 now open, prospective students will have an opportunity to learn about the many career options available at Curtin Kalgoorlie, speak with our expert staff about our courses, mature-age entry, alternative pathways, and much more,” Ms Shugg said.
“Visitors will have the opportunity to explore parts of the campus and visit the WASM Graduates Hall, getting an up close look at some of the latest technologies, resources, academic student support resources and online collaboration tools we have available.
“This year we also have a special competition happening for school students. Each school that attends will receive a quiz, with the answers not only requiring students to explore the Kalgoorlie campus, but to engage with our industry partners as well. Each year group attending from each school will have the opportunity to win a $100 gift voucher if they successfully answer all the quiz questions.”
Curtin Kalgoorlie Open Day is a free family event with fun activities, food trucks, and free Wi-Fi, and will be held on Wednesday, August 26, from 10am to 3pm at Curtin University’s Kalgoorlie Campus, located at 50 Macdonald Street, Kalgoorlie.
