A huge congratulations to Ajay Anil, Gain Jarvis Thomas, Nisal Deelaka, Jidhin James, and Edwin Shaji, whose art piece was voted as best artwork created as part of the Cultural Awareness Rocks event recently held in Curtin Kalgoorlie.
In September, a group of 25 students from our mining engineering, geology and surveying cohorts at Curtin Kalgoorlie joined Industry and Aboriginal community members for a full-day event, Cultural Awareness Rocks.
Students had the opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal culture in Kalgoorlie and the Goldfields, attend presentations given by Industry and create artwork inspired by the symbols used in Aboriginal culture in collaboration with local Aboriginal community members and Industry partners.
The collaborative art experience allowed students to learn more about the meaning of the symbols used by local Aboriginal groups and add symbols that they found interesting or had personal meaning to their work.
All artwork created on the day was submitted to an art competition at the Curtin Kalgoorlie Library, where with the assistance of Curtin Connect, Curtin Kalgoorlie students had the opportunity to vote by ballet box on their favourite artwork throughout October.
Voting in the artwork competition concluded on 13 October 2023.
