Introducing Vidhi, a Bachelor of Business Administration student who fearlessly embraces new opportunities. Currently specialising in marketing, public relations, and small business start-ups, Vidhi thrives on the diverse challenges offered by her degree. This unique combination allows her to tap into her creative side through marketing, explore the often-overlooked realm of public relations, and satisfy her curiosity about the inner workings of small businesses.
Vidhi’s fascination with business was sparked during her high school years when she discovered her natural talent for management and critical thinking in economics. Despite initially considering a career in medicine, “My mom said if you want to do medicine, why don’t you go for it? I said if I am going to do medicine, then I definitely want to be a surgeon”. However, Vidhi’s passion for business occupied too much of her mind, “I went to my aunt and said I don’t think I want to be a heart surgeon, I don’t know if I would be able to do justice to that role because this is something I’m interested in. She said why don’t you go for it?” Vidhi’s pull to business has taken her from online studies to the Malaysia campus and finally to Australia.
While Vidhi is on the brink of graduation, she has already secured admission for a postgraduate degree in marketing and has landed a job thanks to her taking the opportunities presented to her through the CEO for a day program by @recruitcurtin. Vidhi chose to apply for the CEO for a day program as she wanted to learn more about executive positions. In this program, she was able to shadow an HR manager at SLB, where she gained invaluable insights into the world of managerial roles.
‘My advice for other students is never be shy to grab an opportunity, never be shy to say that you are ambitious enough. It’s okay to say that I am ambitious and I want to take up this opportunity”
Reflecting on her university journey, Vidhi acknowledges her growth from being a reserved and hesitant student to becoming a confident individual who is open to new experiences. Her involvement in various clubs and organisations on campus, including founding her community organisation called Beyond the Bounds, has been instrumental in her personal and professional development.
Beyond the Bounds focuses on raising awareness about youth mental health. The organisation aims to create a supportive environment where young individuals can openly discuss mental health issues and seek help without fear of stigma. Through various initiatives and events, Beyond the Bounds strives to promote mental well-being and provide resources for those in need. Vidhi’s dedication to this cause demonstrates her commitment to making a positive impact on her community and addressing important social issues.
Vidhi has undergone significant personal growth since relocating to Australia. She recognises the challenges she faced when moving to a new country alone at a young age. Although this experience presented its difficulties, Vidhi’s vibrant, and enthusiastic nature suggests that it has been a transformative journey for her. One of the most significant highlights of Vidhi’s university experience was being recognised as a Faculty of Business High Achiever.
Vidhi emphasises the importance of networking events for students, particularly those interested in pursuing careers in business. Looking ahead, she aspires to work in consulting and eventually start her own business catering to the needs of small businesses.
In managing stress and anxiety, Vidhi finds solace in various activities such as going for walks or runs, cooking, and seeking support from her family and friends. She advises students to proactively seize opportunities, maintain a growth mindset, and persevere through challenges.
Vidhi’s journey is a testament to her strength, determination, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to personal and professional growth.
