Happy National Volunteer Week!

Australia’s biggest celebration of volunteering is here, and we’re excited to recognise the positive impact that volunteers make in our local communities. This week, Curtin Volunteers! is proud to celebrate the enthusiasm, dedication and meaningful contributions of our volunteers.

This year’s theme, ‘Something for everyone,’ highlights the diverse range of volunteering opportunities available. We asked six volunteers what their favourite thing about volunteering is:

“My favourite thing about volunteering is that I get to be involved in a variety of activities and causes, all of which are really wonderful. I get to discover and try new things in an environment where I feel safe and welcome.”

– Nathan Chong

“My favourite thing about volunteering is that I’m exposed to new experiences, get to meet plenty of different people and build lifelong friendships and bonds. From meeting new people, to learning new skills and involving myself in new environments, I’ve found the diverse range of activities is absolutely a blast!”

– Sean Phay

“My favourite thing about volunteering is the act of being a volunteer. I enjoy it. Volunteering is an act of kindness and has been shown to release dopamine. A volunteer is someone who donates their energy towards a cause without expectation of reward. I dread the day where I have to give up volunteering to earn a dollar, though I would like a paying job one day.”

– Louis Kaestner

“The best thing about volunteering is facing new experiences and challenges all the time; you never know who you are going to meet. The value of creating great relationships and learning new things everyday while you are helping the community and the environment is the most rewarding feeling.”

– Carlos Andrés Latandret Solana

“One of my absolute favourite aspects of volunteering is the profound sense of fulfillment it brings. Having the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the community and seeing the positive impact on individuals’ lives fills me with immense joy. What’s truly special about volunteering is the genuine connection formed with fellow volunteers who share a common passion for giving back. The camaraderie and shared purpose create a supportive environment where everyone’s efforts contribute to something meaningful.”

– Nandini Joshi

“My favourite thing about volunteering is seeing the smiles and relief on the faces of the people we help during our activities. Meeting people with similar values and core beliefs of caring for the people around us and the environment is also great.”

– Fortune Tormeti
