The best places to relax and unwind on campus

Whether you’re on our bustling  Perth campus or the more laid-back Kalgoorlie grounds, it’s essential to have go-to spots where you can escape the grind for a little while. Maybe you want a quiet corner to enjoy lunch, or you’re just in the mood for some good vibes with your mates—these are some of our favourite spots to kick back and relax.

Perth Campus

1. Henderson Court’s Hammock Hotel

Just off of the Hex, Curtin’s iconic heart, the open design, shaded seating, and lush greenery make the Hammock Hotel a prime spot to unwind with friends, people-watch, or just enjoy this new spring weather. Grab a free hammock and settle in with your music for a perfect lunch break. It’s also quiet and nestled into a corner that’s further from most main walkways, which means it’s super easy to relax in.

2. Pine Plaza

If you’re in the mood for something a little quieter but still scenic, Pine Plaza is where it’s at. It’s off the main walkway of campus with sunny and shady spots, benches and tables and, most importantly, bean bags galore! The best part? It’s a great spot to take your shoes off, enjoy the grass and soak in some calm vibes between classes.

3. 418 Courtyard

The outdoor space of 418 is a hidden gem. Located on the north end of 418, on the ground floor and through the backdoors, it’s spacious, warm and perfect for laying back with a book (or pretending to, while scrolling TikTok). It’s not as crowded as other areas, and is paved, so if the spring grass and hay fever combo is really hitting you, this may be the perfect spot away from the freshly cut lawn and the sneezes it brings.

4. The Creative Quarter grass hill

Sometimes you just need a little culture and calm. The lawn hill behind the Engineering Pavillion is an underrated spot to relax. It’s surrounded by art and has a peaceful, chilled-out vibe. Plus, there are recycled tyre chairs and low tables hidden at the top. It’s the perfect mix of nature and creativity, and great for casual catch-ups with friends.

Kalgoorlie Campus

1. The Kalgoorlie Student Hub Lawn

For those studying in Kalgoorlie, the Student Hub Lawn is the ultimate place to unwind. There’s plenty of open space to spread out, making it a top-tier spot for a relaxed lunch or just soaking in some sunshine. It’s central enough to be social but still offers a quiet vibe when you need it. Bring a blanket, maybe some snacks and you’re set for a solid chill session.

2. The Social Club

When The Social Club is open, it’s a great place to catch up with mates and attend industry nights when they are on. The newly placed couches are also a nice place to hang out in between classes. It’s a quiet spot where you can just unwind for a bit before and right after classes. Most importantly, it’s a great place to escape the heat!

 3. The Courtyard

Between buildings 701 and 702, The Courtyard is a great place to relax in the sun and have a rest in between classes. Bring your lunch and soak in the sun whilst chatting with your mates for the perfect unwind after a busy day.

Our campuses might be known for their academic hustle, but they’re packed with spots where you can hit pause, recharge and enjoy the beauty around you. Whether you’re on our Perth campus or the Kalgoorlie grounds, finding your perfect spot to relax is just part of the student experience.
