How exchange changed his perspective
Lawrence’s travel experiences have been crucial to his development as a filmmaker. “Traveling has opened my eyes to different perspectives and how diverse stories can be,” he explains. “It’s not just about telling a good story; it’s about finding the universal elements that resonate with people worldwide.”
These experiences have helped him understand how to craft stories that are not only entertaining but also thought-provoking.
Connecting with industry
Despite his passion for expression through the arts, some areas of university life have still been challenging. Lawrence shared how it can be a struggle to connect with industry, saying that it can feel like diving into the deep end, without prior experience. He acknowledges that finishing a degree and wondering “What now?” can feel jarring but has found that staying motivated through other hobbies can help. Lawrence has been learning three new instruments and has joint a gym, which has become a welcome outlet, when trying to find footing in the professional world.
Looking to the future
Looking ahead, Lawrence is dedicated to creating films that make a real impact. “I want to make films that challenge the audience to think deeply and inspire change,” he says.
His goal is to use his art to provoke critical thinking and encourage viewers to see the world differently. For Lawrence, storytelling is about more than just visuals, it’s about sharing experiences that lead to reflection and personal growth.
As he continues his studies, Lawrence is eager to explore the intersection of film and social issues, using his work to address important topics and promote understanding. “Storytelling can be a powerful tool for change,” he says.
“I want to use my voice to tell stories that matter.”
