Curtin is delighted to welcome both new and returning students for Semester One at our WA campuses. It is wonderful to see so many students in class and on campus.

Here at Curtin, we are proud of our large and diverse community and we work hard to ensure it is an inclusive and welcoming environment.

As we start a new Semester, it’s important to remember Curtin’s codes of conduct for both staff and students, our commitment to freedom of speech and our core values of respect and integrity.

While Curtin upholds the right to freedom of speech, this is not absolute. It does not extend to any actions or behaviours that infringe on the rights of others to participate fully in University life or pose a risk to the safety and wellbeing of other staff or students. This includes racist behaviour such as antisemitism and islamophobia. Such actions may be considered General Misconduct and will be treated as such according to Statute 10 of our Act. Statute 10 can be found on the Statutes and Rules website

Everyone in the Curtin community can do their part to ensure the campus is a safe and welcoming place, by treating one another with kindness and respect and by being mindful of how our words and actions may impact others.

If you have any concerns about the safety, security and wellbeing of any member of our community, yourself or others, you can get help by advising our Safer Community Team. We wish all our Curtin community a safe, happy and enjoyable start to Semester One.

All the best,

Professor Harlene Hayne CNZM

Vice-Chancellor
