Professor Peter Howat, Director of Curtin’s Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer Control, has been awarded a Fellowship in the American Academy of Health Behaviour for his large volume of work in the field.
‘I feel honoured to be recognised for my work in public health, and it is a privilege to be a Fellow alongside some of the world’s leading authorities in this field,’ Professor Howat said.
‘The recognition also belongs with my colleagues at Curtin who have been my research partners in a wide range of projects. The fellowship is significant for Health Sciences at Curtin because it provides further recognition of the high-level of health research that is being undertaken at the University.
Only the second Australian resident to receive the honour, Professor Howat has authored over 280 publications, and has 265 conference presentations at mostly international and national level. He has also been principal or co-investigator on 92 research grants and contracts, worth almost $6m.
