Two Curtin PhD students have today been granted prestigious scholarships to help improve extraction processes in the mining industry.
David Grimsey and Simon Assmann each received one of four $10,000 Minerals and Energy Research Institute of Western Australia scholarships presented by Mines and Petroleum Minister Norman Moore.
“Research in the minerals and energy sector is vital to ensure WA’s strong mining sector is maintained through innovative practices,” Mr Moore said this morning.
“New techniques developed through this research will benefit the future technological challenges faced by the minerals and energy sector.”
The scholarships are awarded to PhD students researching minerals and petroleum exploration, development and production.
Mr Grimsey will aim to improve the nickel extraction process.
Third-year PhD student Mr Assman aims to provide a deeper understanding of liquid to liquid extraction technology.
