Bruce Maycock, Helman Alfonso, Sharyn Burns and Linda Portsmouth recently attended the in the 47th APACPH (Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health) Conference in Bandung, Indonesia.
The conference theme was “Public Health Challenge in the Asia Pacific Region: Building Regional Initiatives from Local Experiences and Best Practices”. Two of our recent Indonesian Master Public Health graduates presented their dissertations – Heribertus Wibowo presented an oral paper and Anom Josafat presented a poster. Both were well received.
The delegates held a stall on behalf of the School of Public Health in which they promoted the different post-graduate programs by coursework and research available to prospective students. Several students approached the Curtin stall with many showing interest in our programs. It was pleasing to see the significant role of Curtin in the region recognised at the conference, with a big congratulations to Bruce Maycock, who was elected as General Secretary of the Organisation (APACPH).
While in Indonesia, Sharyn, Bruce, Helman and Linda had productive talks with Universitas Indonesia about the joint Master Public Health program and the planned collaboration between the Universitas Indonesia Health Promotion Department and our health promotion team. Sharyn and Linda have been video conferencing with the health promotion staff there, but as always, it was lovely to meet face to face in Indonesia.
