Free Support and Skill Building Group for Family and Friends of People with Eating Disorders (EDs)

Throughout 2018, Curtin researchers and The Centre for Clinical Interventions (CCI) will run free, two-part groups for carers, family members, and/or friends of people with eating disorders.

These interactive groups are designed to assist in reducing carers’ distress levels by providing information about EDs, giving participants the opportunity to share their personal experiences, and, providing opportunities to learn and practice helpful strategies when interacting with their loved one. Research shows that having a loved one with an eating disorder places an enormous burden on carers who are often under-resourced to cope.

The carers’ loved one does not have to be currently in treatment for the carer to attend or benefit from the group.

The two sessions will run from 4.30 pm – 7.00 pm over two consecutive weeks and are facilitated by CCI’s Clinical Psychologists. Curtin University will be conducting associated research to assess the effectiveness of recent updates to the group format and content.

If you are interested in participating, read the flyer to find out more.
