Curtin is hosting a Human Library during O-Week (20, 22 & 23 February) and we are seeking participants to volunteer to be a Human Book.
Just like in a real library, a visitor to the Human Library can choose a book from a range of titles. The difference is that our books are people and reading is a conversation. The Human Library is a safe environment that is shaped by a framework of respect in which people are given permission to talk to a Human Book to ask questions and share experiences about topics that are often avoided or made silent. Using this strategy, the Human Library aims to break down barriers, encourage understanding and promote acceptance, respect and inclusion.
If you can answer yes to the following, then we would love to hear from you about becoming a Human Book.
Are you…
- Open to talking about yourself and how you are different?
- Willing to help people learn about identity, difference and diversity?
- Confident to talk to a variety of people you don’t know?
- Available for a three-hour training session.
