Members of the Curtin Council visited Kalgoorlie on 10 September for their monthly meeting, in what is believed to be the first time a Curtin Council meeting has been held on a regional campus.

In addition to formal meetings, Council members met with key community stakeholders over lunch to share their vision for Curtin, particularly the Kalgoorlie Campus and the Curtin WA School of Mines.

At lunch, the group was addressed by the Chancellor, Mr Colin Beckett, and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Terry, who delivered a presentation and led a discussion on Curtin’s long-term commitment to Kalgoorlie and the strategic planning currently underway for the Kalgoorlie Campus.

“A close working relationship with the community, as well as our industry partners, is critical to the current and future success of the Kalgoorlie Campus,” Professor Terry said.

Later in the day, Council members hosted a reception in the Curtin WA School of Mines Graduate’s Hall. The gathering was attended by staff, students and alumni to recognise the important role they play in the success of the WA School of Mines.
