Raoul Marks, a Fremantle-raised animator and Curtin graduate, is part of the creative trio who recently won an Emmy for the opening credits design of HBO hit, True Detective.
The group designed the eerie sequence out of their Sydney studio, where Marks has been based for the past three years. This was the creative team’s first pitch to Hollywood, beating four industry-experienced firms to take on the project.

The True Detective opening credits have been widely praised for enhancing the storyline and setting the tone instead of creating something that the viewers would prefer to skip over.
The Emmy nomination has been a springboard for Marks’s animation career. Now based in LA, he has recently been involved in the Adidas World Cup advertisements and has worked on AMC’s new show, Halt and Catch Fire.
“I’m beyond amazed,” Marks said from LA. “Tuxedo shopping in Beverly Hills seems a very long way from beers and loud music at Mojos.”
