Almost 17, 000 people poured into Curtin’s Bentley campus for the annual Open Day event on August 16.
Unfortunately for event organisers the crowds were not the only thing pouring in. Rain bucketed down with little interruption over the course of the day.
Despite the challenging weather conditions the university drew its second largest crowds ever.
Event Coordinator Asha Selvendra said although the weather was worse than predicted, the event ran smoothly.
‘The weather is so important when it comes to Open Day, but we proved this year that we make it a success regardless of the conditions,’ she said.
Curtin University’s newest facilities were among the most popular attractions on the day. The Resources and Chemistry Precinct and Curtin Stadium enjoyed a steady flow of visitors and the Future Student Centre had around 700 people come through their doors.
Another key attraction was the Fun Zone, complete with petting zoo, air-bot wars, balloon typhoon, slide and rock climb, gingerbread bakehouse, aero bungy, circus challenge, bouncy castle and joust.
All of Curtin’s faculty areas were there showcasing their courses.
‘The feedback from all the faculty areas was really positive, ‘ Ms Selvendra said.
Planning for next year’s Open Day is already underway.
