A colourful collection of children’s favourites joined Stitches the Bear to help raise $3,200 for Princess Margaret Hospital for Children at Curtin’s Bentley campus recently.
The annual event is one of the six fund raising events run by Curtin Community Projects, Campus and Community Life. Organisers Kate Dewan and Cas Stillwell said the generosity from the campus community was great.
‘I wasn’t sure what to expect – but am impressed with the turn out and response,’ said Cas.
This year’s collection for PMH culminated in “Zoolander” style walk-off.
An improvised catwalk was marked up and, against a background of thumping music, each competitor then tried to out move each other each other in a choreographed battle royale. After four rounds the field was swept clear by Stitches the Bear.
Kate Dewan was impressed with the walk-off.
‘Cas did a great job at MCing and everyone was really into it. I think it went down pretty well. Dressing up, collecting money and getting people to dance was great fun. Everyone came and saw it and it was awesome.’
The money raised will help PMH buy a new Cone Beam 3D Dental Imaging System which will make diagnostic imaging more precise and safer for children.
