The annual World’s Greatest Shave was an unprecedented success at Curtin this year, with students and staff colouring or shaving their locks to raise a whopping $25,000 for Leukaemia research.
Around 70 brave souls gathered near Atkinson forum on Curtin’s Bentley campus to put vanity aside for the cause, raising $8,500 more than in 2008.
Student and Community Development Officer Maureen Meredith said the increase in donations was partly due to more females being willing to abide by the event’s slogan of “be brave and shave”.
‘More girls shaving contributes a lot to the fund raising,’ she said.
‘It’s such an emotional thing for girls. I’m just really proud of their contribution, helping people that are less fortunate. And the Leukaemia Foundation expresses their gratitude as well.’
