Industrial issues resolved

Students would be aware that National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) placed bans on the recording and transmission to Curtin of student assessment and exam results as part of industrial action related to negotiations over salaries and conditions.

I am pleased to advise that the NTEU and the University have now reached in principle agreement on salaries and conditions.  As a result, the bans on the provision of student results have been lifted and all staff are now working to ensure students get their results as soon as possible.

The offer accepted by the NTEU keeps Curtin in the top third of the sector in terms of pay and conditions, and second in Western Australia.  Curtin academics will receive an increase of 18 percent over four years, an additional $1000 one-off payment, improvements to workload, and better conditions for sessional and research staff, among other advantages.

While most students should receive their results on 9 December, results for a small number of students may not be available to be processed in time for publication on that date. The University will process and approve these results as soon as they are available, and if necessary, additional staff will be allocated to this task.

I hope all students have a happy and safe summer break, and I look forward to welcoming many of you back to Curtin in 2010.  To those students now graduating, I thank you for choosing Curtin and wish you well in your personal and professional lives.
