Generous community donations to local radio station Curtin FM have surpassed $110,000 in this year’s Radiothon.
The total amount of $111,976 was raised from more than 1,700 individual donations over the course of the five-day event.
Station Manager Quinn Glasson said it was an incredible achievement and one of the largest amounts they had raised in the last 10 years from Radiothon.
“This incredible result couldn’t have been achieved without the loyalty and generosity of our listeners,” Mr Glasson said.
“Throughout this year’s Radiothon, more than 60 people kindly volunteered their time to take phone calls, manage donations and coordinate the event.”
Mr Glasson also thanked the community for throwing their support behind the fundraising drive.
“We have been overwhelmed by the unwavering support our generous listeners have shown during Radiothon this year and sincerely thank everyone who helped achieve this amazing result,” Mr Glasson said.
Curtin University Vice-President of Corporate Relations, Ms Valerie Raubenheimer, said every dollar raised during Radiothon went directly into running the station.
“The support given to Curtin FM particularly shines during Radiothon as their community of committed listeners come together to donate and support the station,” Ms Raubenheimer said.
“These generous donations will help ensure Western Australia’s largest community radio station continues to serve its band of loyal listeners.”
Curtin FM is Western Australia’s largest community radio station with more than 230,000 weekly listeners.
It is based at Curtin University’s Bentley Campus and is a not-for-profit enterprise completely funded by community support and sponsorships.
