Curtin University of Technology is calling on local residents to assist the Australian Red Cross Blood Service in their appeal for blood donors this May.

Representatives from the Blood Service will be at Curtin’s Bentley Campus on Wednesday 7 May between 12pm – 2pm at Henderson Court to take registrations from those interested in giving blood.

It is hoped that the local community will unite with Curtin staff and students by volunteering to give blood and help save lives.

Maureen Meredith, Community Liaison Officer at Curtin said that the Blood Service are always looking for more people to donate blood in order to help meet hospital demand for blood products.

“Currently only one in 30 Australians give blood, even though one in three Australians will need blood or blood products during their lifetime,” Maureen said.

“21,000 donations are required every week to meet the need for blood and blood products in Australia.”

“The Blood Service relies on the support of the community and I am encouraging as many people to come on to campus and register to donate blood and help save those with cancer, heart disease and other life-threatening illnesses.”

People in and around the Canning locality are encouraged to take the opportunity to register to donate blood and also enjoy the carnival atmosphere with a free sausage sizzle, music and games.

Potential donors can also register at http://community.curtin.edu.au/services/jcla_bloodathon.cfm or
call 13 14 95.
