Visitors to Curtin University’s Open Day will have the opportunity to catch an array of Pokémon as the University’s Bentley Campus becomes one of the largest Pokémon Go stops in Perth this Sunday.
The Pokémon Go phenomenon will be free to play at Curtin throughout Open Day, with ‘lures’ and charging stations situated throughout the Campus for Pokémon Go trainers to continue catching the fictional creatures.
Mr Ty Hayes, Chief Marketing Officer, said Curtin was continuing to use the gaming world as a teaching tool, and tapping into the worldwide phenomenon of Pokémon Go was a great example of the University’s approach to innovation, while also enhancing people’s experience at Open Day.
“The Pokémon Go game is a great addition to this year’s Open Day and we look forward to welcoming new visitors to the Campus to play the game with their friends and family,” Mr Hayes said.
Studentbox is Curtin’s online community especially for Western Australian year 11 and 12s that provides help, support, study resources and tools to help them through high school and into university. Studentbox ambassadors will be located at each Pokémon Go charging station to provide information on the online resource for Year 10-12 high school students. High school students who sign up to Studentbox on the day will go into the running to win a MacBook computer.
Open Day 2016 will also feature a variety of attractions including simulated lightsaber fights, magic instant snow making, and virtual logistics with Oculus Rift. Visitors can also experience a flight around the world using the amazing Liquid Galaxy program.
There will be tours of the new ‘Agency’, an innovative teaching and research facility that enables business students to experience first-hand how major global brands monitor their online presence using social media analytics.
Tours are also running through Curtin FM radio station, which is celebrating 40 years of broadcasting, and always draws a huge crowd.
Attendees can find out about the latest courses including data science, animation and game design. Curtin staff will be available to answer questions on courses, scholarships, mature-age entry and alternative pathways. There will also be a dedicated parent information session.
Curtin Open Day 2016 will be held on Sunday 31 July from 10:00am to 4:00pm. For more information visit the Open Day website.
Pokémon Go can be downloaded free onto a Smartphone or Android device. The Twitter hashtags for the day are #curtinopenday and #bethepokemaster.
