Curtin University’s Open Day will this year utilise new beacon technology via the Hello Curtin app to deliver tailored information to visitors via their mobile phone.
Once downloaded, the Hello Curtin app will notify people of additional information and activities on offer in their current vicinity, as they pass by beacons dotted throughout the campus.
Valerie Raubenheimer, Vice-President Corporate Relations and Development, said the inclusion of a dedicated app incorporating beacon technology is an example of Curtin pioneering innovative technologies to enhance the experience at Open Day and beyond.
“There is always so much going on at Open Day. The Hello Curtin app is a great way for people to find out what is happening and where,” Ms Raubenheimer said.
“Utilising this latest technology is also an opportunity to showcase Curtin’s innovative research and teaching to future students and the wider University community, which is increasingly targeted towards online learning environments.”
Open Day 2015 will also feature a variety of attractions including student fashion shows displaying innovative and edgy garment designs by Curtin fashion students.
There will be a demonstration of the capsule-maker, mini excavators and dump trucks and tours of the stock market trading room.
Staff will also be on hand to provide course information to prospective students and answer questions on scholarships, mature-age entry and alternative pathways. There will also be a dedicated parent information session.
Students can go into the draw to win an Apple Watch when they download Hello Curtin and there is also a ‘selfie’ competition for budding photographers.
WAIT alumni will also be reconnecting at Open Day this year with the WAIT Reunion event taking place all day. There will be a welcome reception, a lecture series, a book café with presentations and a sundowner. Everyone is welcome.
The University’s largest event of the year attracts thousands of visitors and prospective students to the Bentley campus.
Curtin Open Day 2015 will be held on Sunday, 2 August from 10:00am to 4:00pm. For more information visit the Open Day website.
