Curtin University has appointed Professor Robert Cunningham as Dean and Head of Curtin Law School.
Professor Cunningham is an internationally recognised academic and barrister who brings more than 20 years of experience to the role. His research expertise in law, technology and intellectual property will support his role to deliver Curtin Law School’s vision.
Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry congratulated Professor Cunningham on his appointment.
“Professor Cunningham has extensive experience teaching law across Australia, Asia and Europe, with a particular focus on corporate law, professional responsibility and international trade law. His commitment and dedication to the profession as well as his national and international reputation make him an impressive candidate for the role,” Professor Terry said.
“As the former Deputy Head of School, Professor Cunningham is a demonstrated innovator who will be instrumental in developing and leading the strategic mission of Curtin Law School in the years to come.”
Professor Cunningham said he was honoured to be appointed to the role.
“Since joining Curtin Law School in 2016, I have worked alongside exceptional legal academics to integrate legal practice and education, embed international perspectives and ensure students have a deep appreciation for the rule of law,” Professor Cunningham said.
“I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with the next generation of lawyers graduating from Curtin University.”
Professor Cunningham has been appointed as Dean until 2022, succeeding Professor Paul Fairall, who held the role from 2012 to 2019.
