Curtin debuts in ARWU ranking in Natural Sciences and Mathematics

Curtin University has debuted in the highly-regarded Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) in the field of Natural Sciences and Mathematics with an overall ranking of 134 out of 200, placing it an estimated fourth amongst Australia’s universities.

The ARWU ranks the top 200 universities in the world in five fields – Natural Sciences and Mathematics; Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences; Life and Agriculture Sciences; Clinical Medicine and Pharmacy; and Social Science.

Curtin placed alongside the Australian National University, Monash University and University of Melbourne in the 101-150 band for the field of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

The University also maintained its Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences ranking in the top 101-150 band of universities worldwide, with an estimated rank of seventh in Australia.

As Curtin University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Terry said: “these results are very pleasing and affirm the impact of our recent research strategy which has been focused on building research capability in areas of strength.”

Professor Chris Moran, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, said Curtin has taken courageous steps over the last decade to deliberately move to be more research intensive and invested and the ARWU success reflects that strategy.

The ARWU listing is released annually by Shanghai Consultancy.
