Curtin University of Technology will conduct a Year 10 Parent Information Evening focussing on year 11 and 12 subject selection, later this month.
To be held on Wednesday 31 March from 5pm-7pm in building 210 on Curtin’s Bentley Campus, the information evening includes a panel discussion moderated by ABC 720 Morning’s Geoff Hutchison.
Leisa Wheatland, Manager of Prospective Student Services at Curtin, said that recent changes by the Curriculum Council had made subject selection for Year 11 and 12 a little more complicated than before.
“School has changed a lot since parents were at school, and the new courses and range of choice available often make it hard for parents to help their children make the right choices if they don’t have all of the necessary information,” she said.
“Year 10 students now need to pick from a wide range of Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) courses.
“WACE courses come in three levels and parents need to understand these changes to help their children make the right selection as this can affect their entrance into university.
“Curtin has organised this special information evening for parents to ask questions and get first hand information from our experts.
“It’s important for parents to be informed and have confidence in the advice they pass on to their children in these pivotal years.”
