Eighteen student fashion designers will present their end of year collections at the 2016 Curtin Fashion Graduate Show, titled Bespoke, this December.
The show, to be held at B-Shed in Fremantle, will present a series of distinctive and unique collections created by the graduating students.
Dr Anne Farren, Head of Fashion Design at Curtin said the end of year showcase is a great opportunity for the students to present their collections to an audience of fashion industry, media and consumers.
“The students have spent months of dedication and hard work putting together their collections and it is always so rewarding to watch it all come to life at the end of year fashion show,” Dr Farren said.
“There is a lot of detail and time committed to each piece presented at the show and this series of collections is unified by one common element – a dedication to meticulously crafted, bespoke fashion.
Along with designing and creating each individual piece for the show, the students are also responsible for planning and promoting the end of year event.”
Curtin fashion student Ms Sarah Mah, who recently showed garments from her collection at Malaysia Fashion Week, will be presenting her collection MAH at the Bespoke runway show.
“My collection MAH, which means the pause, gap or space between two structural parts, draws on the fragmented geometric yet curved forms of origami. Designs in this collection also draw inspiration from the human skeleton and its paradoxical nature,” Ms Mah said.
“Being part of the 2016 Mercedez Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week was a fantastic opportunity to showcase my collection to an international audience and I am looking forward to presenting it to a Perth audience this December,” Ms Mah said.
Ms Naomi Halls will also present her collection Shibui: Hand of the Maker at the end of year showcase.
“My collection is inspired by the traditional Japanese concept of Shibui which refers to the beauty of imperfection and simplicity, with a focus on the use of silk, as well as cocoon shapes as a reflection of the fibres origins,” Ms Halls said.
Ms Kate Hannah will be presenting her collection P’JUNK, with its commentary on fast fashion and the fast pace of the fashion industry, at the end of year fashion show.
